BioBio: Oshitari grew up as the second child of a poor Jewish family in the East End of London. His father was killed in a boating accident when he was two, and his mother was forced to work several jobs to support her three children. As a result, Oshitari was alone left to entertain himself for most of his childhood.
In school, Oshitari excelled in several subjects, but his accent lost him the respect of his teachers and peers, quickly discouraging him from making any real effort in his classes. He instead made the absolute minimum amount of effort required to pass his classes, and sought actual stimulation elsewhere.
A few months wandering through the financial district found him entranced with the workings of higher society. However, virtually penniless, he was unable to establish place in this different world. Realizing that the only solution was to get a job, Oshitari walked into the most aesthetically pleasing building he could find and asked for work.
After facing some initial resistance, Oshitari's determination landed him a minimum-wage job working in the laundry rooms of the hotel. Although the job was nothing more than menial labor, there were also no questions about his age or origins. He got along easily with his coworkers, who quickly let him learn the secrets of the trade, as well as the number of things one could learn from other people's dirty laundry.
He grew used to his job, and even began to make a bit of money, which his coworkers helped him spend on some of more flattering clothes. However, after a manager came in to supervise, he was recognized for having an aptitude for standing very still and looking pretty. His appearance got him promoted to a bellhop, where he gradually learned more about the wealthy lifestyle and the nuances of proper speech.
Once, while leaving work, Oshitari, evidently appearing much older than his 16 years, was propositioned by one of the young socialites he had escorted earlier that day. Failing to forsee any real consequences, Oshitari accepted, and was swiftly introduced to this other aspect of high society.
Things quickly spiraled out of control as Oshitari established a wide client base, with little to no discrimination against age, appearance, or gender. If the rest of the hotel staff became aware of his new activities, there were no signs or repercussions. Rumors circulated that business in the hotel had never been better.
However, an abrupt change in management led to the changing of several hotel policies, and in an episode of particular carelessness, Oshitari was caught between the thighs of an Austrian diplomat's daughter. The new management refused to continue to employ Oshitari, especially after discovering that he had been lying about his age and faking his tax forms for over a year. They were more than willing to lay charges and allow him to receive proper punishment through the judicial system, but fear of the press creating a scandal out of the trial persuaded the Austrian government to offer substantial sums to the hotel and to Oshitari's mother if the case were discarded and he agreed to attend a correctional facility outside of the country. Having no desire to counter this deal, and having heard rumors of estranged family members in America, Oshitari negotiated a placement at St. Jude's.
